I am a small black spot of free
thought in a white mass of rolled dough.
That is how I feel.
The conservative power in the south
is overwhelming.
Our Oldies radio sings songs of
The Beatles, The Rolling Stones and The Who.
But they only tap their feet and
think about the past.
Free speech is only for our government
textbooks.
Free speech roams over the top
of the south’s 50-foot blanket of gray conservatism.
Folks from time to time poke their
heads above the gray just to see how smoothly
the gray blanket limits our view
of our clear skies.
I could assume that Ray Bradbury
‘s “Fahrenheight 451”
is on the “do not read” list in
our public schools.
